British Tea / Idioms
Tea is a universal drink – it can be drunk in the heat and cold, hot and iced. In the United Kingdom tea isn’t necessary accompanied with sweets and cakes. Britain has a long tradition tea consuming. In many parts of England, particularly the North West and North East and in many parts of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, tea is still used to mean the main evening meal.
Plain tea — чай без каких-либо добавок
Scented tea — ароматизированный чай
White tea — чай с молоком
Russian tea — чай с лимоном, чай по-русски (с лимоном и сахаром; подаётся в стаканах)
Husband’s tea — очень слабый чай, "водичка": I never take tea with Emily if I can help it; hers it always husband's tea. (DEI) — Я, по возможности, не пью чай у Эмили: всегда подает не чай, а водичку.
Beef tea — мясной бульон
Pink tea — официальный или светский прием, особенно посещаемый преимущественно женщинами
Drinking tea with pleasure isn't working without measure — чай пить - не дрова рубить (used as a jocular reply to someone's invitation to sit down and have a cup of tea to mean: yes, thank you - tea drinking is pleasure, not hard labour)
Give the horses a spell and have a pot of tea — дайте лошадям...
