Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the World's most famous soccer players. He currently plays in Spain, for Real Madrid. Being the most valuable player of the World Cup, Ronaldo has the game, the look, the women, and the passionate fan bases that either love him or hate him. Ronaldo is unquestionably the World Cup’s best marketing tool, and here are six reasons behind the growth of one of the biggest stars in sports.
6 - The show pony
Cristiano Ronaldo is one the most skillful players in world soccer. He has complete mastery of the ball and can fool opponents with a flick of his boot or twist of his body.
When he first came to prominence with English Premier League (EPL) club Manchester United, Ronaldo loved showing off his ability: Every time the teenager was in possession of the ball, he would perform his repertoire of step-overs and various tricks.
While the moves helped build his superstar status, they rarely resulted in goals, and opposing fans began calling him a show pony (a player who is all tricks and no end product).
5 - The goals
Cristiano Ronaldo has matured and evolved into a more effective player. Cutting out the unnecessary showboating, the young star combined his skills and trickery with his devastating pace to become one of the top goal-scorers in England.
In the 2007-08 Season, he scored an astonishing 42 goals in 49 games, including eight as Manchester United won Europe’s prestigious Champions League competition.
In 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo was transferred to Spanish club Real Madrid for a world record fee of $132 million, where his phenomenal form continued with 33 goals in 35 games.
